Pigeon Racing - Celebrating the Champions of the Sky

Very few people even know that the sport of pigeon racing exists and this is a dissapointing fact considering that the sport is one of the most fascinating sports involving animals. Pigeon Racing is more popular in Europe than it is in the United States, but its popularity in the states has grown in recent years.

No one is sure how the racing pigeon does what it is able to do. These creatures are truly amazing in that they can be taken hundreds of miles away from their loft in a trailor and make it back home on the day. On a hundred mile pigeon race, the race birds will more often than not beat the driver who hauled them home.

Some theories about why racing pigeons are able to do what it is that they can do include magnetic orientation with the earths magnetic fields, infer sound or the ability to hear familiar sounds at ultra low frequencies from many miles away, no one really knows for sure how they are able to find their way home, but the majority of them do.

Not all homing pigeons are born with the ability to find their way home from hundreds of miles away. This trait has been bred into the racing homer throughout the generations. These birds are decendants of the Rock Dove and from times as early as Noah there has been a close relationship betwen man and these amazing creatures that have the ability to make the world a smaller place.

Pigeon racing is a sport that the whole family can enjoy. The sport of pigeon racing teaches children important life lessons and responsibility. There are pigeon racing clubs around the United States and the members will be more than happy to help get you started in this exciting sport. Friendships will be built that will last forever.
